TERMAC – the Name

By Terence O’Reilly Jr. and Sean O’Reilly Sr.

What’s in a name?

In TERMAC’s case, the name evokes the history of a long-running company, celebrated for its forward thinking. In 1963, Terence O’Reilly Sr. founded the company with partner Joe McAveety and the two names merged to form TERMAC. They were good partners for many years. O’Reilly took care of the restaurant industry and “Mac” took care of the janitorial business side.

As dishwasher rentals became a larger part of the business, the two parted ways in the 1970s. McAveety sadly passed away. Terence O’Reilly Sr. continued to run TERMAC, and he saw the future in low energy commercial dishwasher rentals.

We have to give our father credit for being a visionary. During the energy crunch of the 1970s, he correctly predicted that the low energy commercial dishwasher rental business would explode.  And it did.

During this time, we were kids working our way up in the business, mostly in the warehouse. We enjoyed working with our father and serving the hospitality industry. To meet the needs of this evolving market, we established a system of service and developed The Filter Man, G.T.O. Grease Trap Services, Universal Fire Protection and AllPro Metal Fabrication. It all began with TERMAC and flourished because of our commitment to customer service.

After 55 years, the name still means something.
